ATAK Packages, Plugins, Maps & Configurations

ATAK packages and plugins for neighborhood communications. These include essential plugins for data sync, GRG's, offline vehicle navigation, and Meshtastic integration.

Tested interoperability (Mar 2026)
  • ATAK-CIV: 5.6.0
  • Map XMLs for ATAK: v1.5.0
  • Meshtastic ATAK plugin: v1.1.40
  • Meshtastic Android app: v2.7.13
  • Meshtastic Firmware: v2.7.15

You should definitely disable automatic updates on ATAK & Meshtastic in the Play Store.

ATAK-CIV 5.6.0 from TAK.gov

Unselect all, and then Select: ATAK-CIV civ-release.apk + DataSync + GRG Builder + VNS

ATAK-CIV from the Play Store

Also get the following plugins from the Play Store: DataSync, GRG Builder, VNS

Map XMLs for ATAK

Pre-configured map tile sets and overlays for offline use, unzip and place in /atak/imagery/ on your device

Meshtastic Plugin for ATAK

Integrates Meshtastic mesh networking with ATAK for offline comms

Meshtastic Android App

To stay on the tested build (v2.7.13), disable auto-updates for Meshtastic in Google Play (per-app), and only update after verifying ATAK plugin compatibility

Meshtastic Firmware Flasher

Use Chrome or a Chrome-like browser to flash your Meshtastic devices with the appropriate firmware

Chaos Koalas ATAK Preferences

Standard ATAK preferences file with optimized Meshtastic plugin settings. Put the file in /atak/config/prefs/ on your device and then import in ATAK via: Settings → Callsign and Device Preferences → Preference Management. Make sure you set the correct "Meshtastic Channel Index" in Settings → Tool Preferences → Specific Tool Preferences → Meshtastic Preferences

If Meshtastic ↔ ATAK breaks:
  • Confirm the Meshtastic Android App is still v2.7.13 (disable auto-updates)
  • Confirm the Meshtastic ATAK plugin is v1.1.40

Installation Notes

Quick Tips:
  • Install ATAK-CIV loadout first before adding plugins
  • In the ATAK menu, tap "VNS" and then tap "Manage Offline Regions" and download your region
  • Meshtastic plugin requires a paired Meshtastic device
  • Map packages can be large - download on Wi-Fi if possible
  • Preferences file will overwrite your current ATAK settings - backup first if needed
